What's Going On At WJHS (in pictures!)
Our 2012 WJH Golf Team competed in the district tourney last Thursday. Jimmie W. placed 3rd! Congratulations
Pictured here are the WJH Academic Rodeo teams. First is the 6th grade team which competed in the Wharton County Youth Fair Academic Rodeo Spelling Bee. Aaron W. placed 3rd and Brant B. placed 10th. This team is coached by Ms. Barnes.
Next is the 7th/8th grade Academic Rodeo team which competes in the WCYF Academic Rodeo which is an Academic Challenge Quiz whcih seeks to give academically gifted students the same type of recognition given to athletically gifted students and call attention to the importance of quality education. The teams are offered a broad range of questions - some challenging enough for the academically gifted participants and others easy enough for the average adult or student watching the program to answer. This team is coached by Mrs. May.
The Sixth grade students attended a Math camp while 7th and 8th grade students were testing. This was designed by Mrs. Sharp who split the students into groups and created various activities to refresh students’ math skills before STAAR testing.
8th Grade STAAR History Camp - While the 6th and 7th graders were STAAR Testing the 8th grade students took part in a History Camp designed by Mrs. Cano (History Department Head). The students were split into groups and took part in various activities to help them prepare for the STAAR History test.
8th Grade STAAR Science Camp - While the 6th and 7th graders were STAAR Testing the 8th grade students took part in a Science Camp designed by Mrs. Williams (Science Department Head). The students were split into groups and took part in various activities to help them prepare for the STAAR Science test.
WJH Teachers put on a great STAAR PEP RALLY to encourage our students to do their best, take their time, and ROCK the STAAR test! Each subject created a skit for the assembly.
